Reunion Letter to Classmates

Dear Class of 1959 Classmates,

Your feedback has indicated the weekend of 6/29-7/01 is best for our upcoming reunion. There were conflicts with all three alternatives, but this weekend was preferred by a good margin. We hope the single conflict with this weekend may be worked out so all who want to attend can do so.
Please notify Pepper Ashford whether you plan to attend or not...as quickly as possible...so intelligent decisions may be made concerning requirements for the various meals and facilities. Mary Bell and Billy Echols are leading local efforts to tie down details, but Mary has already obtained the following helpful info about hotel alternatives. It may be helpful to mention Mary's name (and our renion) to ensure the rates quoted below. We encourage you to make your reservations quickly. In order to enjoy the benefit of having many of us in the same hotel, we are recommending the Holiday Inn Express (#1 below) as our "headquarters" hotel. It's unlikely that this hotel (or any others) can accommodate us all...so we encourage you to make your reservations as quickly as possible.

1. Holiday Inn Express...Contact is Nicole at 662-324-0076...King size bed = $74, Suites = $84...no doubles or singles...Complimentary breakfast is provided along with high-speed internet access, computer in Business Center, health/fitness center, swimming pool, etc.

2. Hampton Inn...Contact is Claire at 662-324-1333...King = $84.60, Double = $80.10...Breakfast is included as is internet access, computer, swimming and passes to Sanderson Center at MSU for exercise...companion motel with Comfort Suites

3. Comfort Suites...Contact is Mary at 662-324-9595 (but she is very pregnant and may soon depart)...7 Doubles (@ $99) and 26 Singles (@ $94) currently available...Breakfast included along with pool

4. Hotel Chester...one Bridal Suite ($175), Queet Suite = $105, Deluxe King = $95, Extra King = $105, Standard = $80...Contact is Christine Holland at 662-323-5005. Mary B indicates there are several "bar type rooms" available at the Chester (potentially providing opportunity for "party after party" if any care to partake) and this location is walking distance to the Starkville Cafe (one alternative for potential group breakfast)

More info will follow but we hope this will enable you all to firm this event on your calendars and to make your travel plans. We're looking forward to spending quality time with many of you in early Summer.

Reunion Planning

Dear Class of 1959 Classmates,

Planning is underway for a class reunion this summer. Based on input received thus far...and the need for advanced notice to enable proper planning...we have identified (3) weekends in June as possibilities for this event. A major purpose of this email is to solicit your input as to which of these weekends is best for you. We will quickly get back to you to establish one of these weekends...based on the input you provide. It will be helpful if you indicate a 1,2,3 ranking alongside the dates indicated below and forward this email back to Pepper Ashford (pashford1@aol.com) and Bing Seitz (tbseitz@aol.com)...or simply communicate this info via separate email or other means.

Potential dates:

Plan A. June 8-10

Plan B. June 22-24

Plan C. June 29 - July 1

Current general plans include the following:

Friday evening...informal subgroup activities as desired...some may wish to schedule local events, some have indicated an interest in going to the Casino in Philadelphia, etc. Nothing formal.

Saturday...mid-late AM, breakfast/brunch...followed by "visit" to old high school and pictures. Informal sub group activities until dinner (late PM/early evening). Various teachers and guests expected to join us for dinner and evening activities. Plan to pass a microphone around the dinner tables so all can say "Hello", introduce spouse and/or other guests, bring us up-to-date on current address and share any other info as desired. We will formally honor/recognize those who are deceased as well as those who may be unable to attend due to illness. Plan is to also honor and recognize the teachers and guests who attend...and some of them may want to share comments. Plan is to have '50's music playing in case some want to dance...but generally playing softly in the background so all can easily communicate and experience quality time together. We also plan to conduct a discussion concerning our 50th anniversary (2009) and to solicit your collective input on plans for this approaching milestone event.

Sunday AM...informal breakfast/brunch arrangements as well as possibly church attendance by those who desire to participate.

Current plan is to allow representatives of other classes with special interest/linkage to our class to participate in various activities...as/if desired...but the major objective of this event is to provide "quality time" for members of the Class of 1959 (and family members) to interact and visit with each other.

Mary Bell and Billy Echols have graciously agreed to lead the various "local" efforts required to make the arrangements necessary to support this event. They will obviously need support/assistance from others in the Starkville area to get this done. Thanks to those who have already indicated a willingness to help...and to those who will do so in coming days.

We continue to solicit your comments/suggestions as we attempt to work the details to stage an event consistent with the consensus input already received. We especially need your quick response to the above request for preference on dates.

Thanks to all.

Reunion dates and plans

We need to choose a date when college is not in session so there will be rooms available for people who come, but don't have any relatives in Starkville (like me). June seems a good time, before it get too hot. What do you think? I dont't know when other class plan for a reunion. I heard od one in early fall, but don't remember the class. Pepper

Reunion Planning

SHS 58-60

I hear there is a reunion plan in the works. I thought a blog might be an appropriate place to make contact with classmates and to post info regarding the reunion plans. If you are a classmate and would like to make a comment or make contact with another classmate post a comment. Pepper and Bing have started the reunion planning process and are meeting this weekend in Atlanta.
